Often times what ends up happening is in school you are learned a lot of theory. However, in business school it is not taught very well what you are going to deal with in the real world. In the real world people who can prove that point and make the argument in a concise manner is normally very much more valuable to that company then people who can write drawn-out resumes.

Likely, marketing is not necessarily up-to-date in terms of that particular occupation as well.
